Food Service Workers work in various establishments where food is prepared such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, etc where they are primarily responsible for preparing a wide variety of food items. They assemble simple dishes, serve food to the customers, handle food storage duties, and maintain kitchen cleanliness. They may also have to operate a cash register in some environments.
To work as a food service worker, one must possess exceptional communication and customer service skills along with good attention to detail, organization, time-management, and teamwork ability.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is generally required to work as a food service worker. Having prior experience in a similar capacity is a plus.
