Insulation Installers are responsible for installing insulation systems into walls, attics, basements, and crawl spaces of commercial and residential buildings. The duties of these professionals include inspecting the building premises, removing old insulation, measuring and cutting insulation material, fitting insulation into the walls and around obstructions, and finishing insulated surfaces.
Working as an insulation installer demands physical dexterity and the ability to perform physical work both indoors and outdoors. Furthermore, an individual working in this capacity should have knowledge of industry standards and best installation practices along with excellent time management, multi-tasking, and teamwork ability.
No formal education is required for this job. However, candidates with a high school diploma or GED certificate are often preferred.
Insulation Installer Sample Job Description
• Inspect the building and read blueprints and related specifications to gain a thorough understanding of the job requirements
• Remove old insulation and dispose of it properly
• Determine the right amount and type of insulation required
• Measure and cut insulations
• Use various tools, such as handsaws, tape measures, knives, scissors, and power saws, to prepare the insulation for installation
• Prepare surfaces for insulation application
• Install insulation systems to insulate buildings and other mechanical systems
• Fasten the insulation around obstructions to fit accurately
• Finish insulated surfaces with plastic covers, canvas strips, tape, cement, asphalt mastic, or sealants to protect them from moisture
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance of pre-installed insulation systems
• Keep all tools and equipment clean and well-maintained
• Keep a complete record of all the work done for billing purposes
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor
